Idaho Pasture Pigs
First recognized as their own breed in 2006, Idaho Pasture Pigs (IPPs) are particularly well adapted to being raised on pasture. Developed by Gary Farris & Shelly Dixon using a combination of the Duroc, old Berkshire, and Kunekune breeds, IPPS are gentle and friendly, excellent grazers, prolific and attentive mothers, hardy, and produce a remarkable red, marbled carcass with butter-like fat & old-world flavor.

Born and raised outside, our pigs thrive grazing rotationally on green pastures and hand fed daily with locally sourced non-GMO grain and minerals, spent grain from a local brewery, bread, tomatoes, apples, pumpkins and goat milk through our many partnerships. Feeder pigs reach a market weight of 230-250 pounds with hanging weights 180-220 pounds in 8-10 months.

Remaining smaller at maturity, approximately 250-350 pounds for sows and 350-450 pounds for boars, IPPs are exceptionally easy keepers. Their smaller size makes them easier to work with, feed and house but doesn't seem to impact litter size. Average litter sizes are 8-10 piglets, though one sow had a litter of 16 and all survived to grow out.

With proper shelter, piglets are born and raised outside in all kinds of weather. The mothers build wonderful nests and the piglets seem to sense when to stay out of the elements. No heat lamps, warming boxes, hormones, antibiotics, vaccinations, iron shots or cutting of wolf teeth are routinely needed. Sows and gilts farrow largely unassisted.

Idaho Pasture Pigs decorate the pastures with a rainbow of colors including black/white, ginger, tri-colored, cream, and any combination of these colors.
